An introduction to the various types of heritage tourism attractions and the impact of broad tourism trends on heritage tourism in Ireland and Internationally.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Demonstrate an understanding of the issues affecting the operational dimension of the Heritage Tourism Sector both within Ireland and internationally, including areas of theoretical debate and controversy.

  2. Identify heritage tourism opportunities and assess their viability.

  3. Classify and analyse the wide range of tourism attractions that constitute the heritage tourism sector.

  4. Analyse national and international case studies and identify trends in global heritage tourism.

  5. Critically evaluate the operation and management of a heritage tourism attraction.

  6. Analyse case study situations, identify problems, suggest and critically evaluate alternative solutions, make recommendations and suggest implementation strategies.
