What's Happening

Startup Weekend is coming to Galway this weekend when developers, designers and business development folks will come together to pitch an idea and launch a business, all in one weekend.

It is a great opportunity to test startup ideas, meet potential co-founders, build the community in Galway and launch your next startup!  54 hours of activity will culminate in a round of presentations to the assembled judges, mentors, and other teams, leaving attendees with valuable feedback on their ideas, new skills, great contacts, and hopefully, a viable startup business.

Startup Weekend is a global grassroots movement of active and empowered entrepreneurs who are learning the basics of founding startups and launching successful ventures. It is the largest community of passionate entrepreneurs with over 1800 past events in 120 countries around the world in 2014.

Whether entrepreneurs found companies, find a co-founder, meet someone new, or learn a skill far outside their usual 9-to-5, everyone is guaranteed to leave the event better prepared to navigate the chaotic but fun world of startups.

In Galway, the event at the GMIT campus will run for 54 hours this weekend, 2nd to 4th October, from 6.30pm on Friday until late Sunday night. Ideas will be selected and teams will be chosen on Friday and these teams will work on their presentation over the weekend. On Sunday night the teams will present their ideas to the panel of judges comprising Dr John Breslin, senior lecturer NUI Galway; Declan Varley, Galway Advertiser group editor, Andrea Wade, co-founder of Opening.io and Laura Lynch, head of Youth Banking at Bank of Ireland.  Come along and participate!  For more information, contact @galstartweekend or check out http://www.up.co/communities/ireland/galway/startup-weekend/7145
