Integrated Project

Description

The integrated project module requires learners to work in groups and individually in the delivery of the various components required for the planning, design and detailing of a complex, multi-faceted civil engineering project.

The module aims to enable the learners to work on a team basis on a project that integrates the knowledge, understanding and application of a range of civil engineering technologies and incorporates environmental, sustainable and financial considerations together with effective communication.

There is also a substantial element of group and individual technical report writing where the learners are required to write a number of structured, professional and academic reports.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Apply relevant civil engineering theory, methods and concepts to strategically assess the various aspects of a complex and multi-faceted civil engineering project.

  2. Using advanced skills, research and design, as part of a group, suitable, cost-effective and innovative solutions for a complex and multi-faceted civil engineering project.

  3. Apply a diverse range of civil engineering software, codes of practice and standards and analytical programmes to evaluate an appropriate response to civil engineering problems.

  4. Critically analyse the financial and economic viability of various construction proposals and demonstrate commercial awareness.

  5. Present the project orally and graphically from concept to design and appraise considerations which influence the costs, designs, construction details and environmental impacts of a civil engineering project.

  6. Plan, programme, lead and monitor the group’s activities, which are required to implement the project
