Interior Design 1

Description

Learners are introduced to the practice of designing, arranging the layout and organising the decoration of Building Interiors.

This module actively investigates how interiors are perceived by the user, how their sensory experience is influenced spatially and visually by the arrangement of the material elements within the space.

Residential, commercial (retail, corporate etc. ), institutional (education and health etc.) and exhibition/event design are areas of study.

The learner is introduced to specific concerns of Interior design such as function and flow, furnishing arrangement and room layout, colour schema and visual unity, mood and functional lighting, material exploration and interior dressing with decorative elements as applied to floors, walls, ceilings and furniture.

The learner will analyse and assess the spatial and visual elements of an interior, explore its potential and propose a design scheme.

The learner will utilise drawing, colour and design conceptual skills acquired at Stage 1 and build on these in this focused introductory module.
