The aim of this module is to introduce the students to the broad area of International Tourism. To review the importance of international tourism as an economic and social activity. To highlight regional and geographic trends and developments in the sector and to assess the potential future influences.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Understand what international tourism is, the role it plays in the world economy, its importance at global, EU and local level.

  2. Review the volume and trends of global tourism and the factors that influence current patterns.

  3. Evaluate the organisations and agencies that are involved in tourism at an international and global level

  4. Assess the factors that influence tourism development both controllable and uncontrollable.

  5. Research tourism and its impact on various world geographic regions.

  6. Analyse economic, social, environmental and climatic issues pertaining to international tourism
