Introduction to HRM

Description

This module aims to provide students with an introduction to the key issues relating to the employment and retention of staff. The module also highlights the strategic importance of the personnel function and the need to ensure organisational flexibility.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Have a knowledge and understanding of the theory, issues, and current practice of personnel management in a variety of organisations, including SMEs, in an Irish context.

  2. Have the ability, competence and confidence to apply the theories relating to the recruitment, retention and development of staff to the workplace.

  3. Be able to compare and contrast the individual performance management and reward systems found in the contemporary workplace.

  4. Be able to develop appropriate disciplinary and grievance procedures for the contemporary workplace.

  5. Be aware of the need to assure work life balance for all employees and be aware of the impact of current issues on the employment function.
