Land Surveying 1

Description

This module introduces the student to the basic tools and skills required to conduct small scale surveys. The practical application of background and theory is emphasised throughout, and on completion the student will be well positioned to move on to higher level surveying theory and practice

Learning Outcomes

  1. Complete the fieldwork required to survey a small area of ground using tape surveying techniques.

  2. Understand how to calculate areas of regular and irregular shapes and to calculate volumes.

  3. Understand and apply the theory of the automatic level. Complete the temporary and permanent adjustment of the level. Complete a line of levels, prepare a longitudinal section, contour an area of ground using the indirect method.

  4. Appraise the quality of surveying measurements taken when using the instruments in the field.

  5. Combine the duties of the modern surveyor with the ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team
