Law and Nursing

The provision of healthcare is governed by a distinctive legal framework.  It is essential that nurses working within that environment are aware of the legal constraints and parameters that frame their decision-making.  This module aims to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the legal environment in which they practice nursing.

1. Be fully familiar with the legal framework which governs the nursing profession.

2. Be able to comprehend and articulate the rights of patients and clients.

3. Have a detailed knowledge of the parameters and limits of their legal duty of care

4. Have a comprehensive understanding of the legal issues surrounding patient safety.
