Why Study?

Due to popular demand, the highly successful programmes in Medical Device Technology and in Quality Management are commencing again in September 2018 to facilitate part time, day time (mornings) delivery.

Early expression of interest is advised as places for September 2018 are limited.

You can apply for one or both certificates and there is a path to an honours Science Degree, the BSc in Quality for Industry, after successful completion of these certificates.

The vast majority of graduates from this course have proceeded to gain employment within the Medical Device sector.

Programme Modules

  • Design and Material selection of Medical Devices
  • Overview of manufacturing techniques
  • Lean and Six Sigma
  • Yellow Belt Problem Solving training
  • Quality Standards including ISO 13485 and FDA 21CFR Part 820
  • Regulatory Affairs
  • Quality Auditing
  • Documentation controls
  • Environmental Controls including cleanroom behaviours
  • Current Industrial Concepts
  • Learning and Innovation skills

Guest speakers and site visits are incorporated into this course, as applicable.

There is a work placement in Semester 2. For those that are already working, this aspect of the course may occur in their current workplace as a project. For those who are not working, the college will work with students to select a placement/project that meets the placement requirements of the certificate.

Essential Information: 

Total fee (Tuition Fee plus Student Contribution) is €2,500.
Fees are fully refundable up to the day the course starts, thereafter there are no refunds.

Student Cards
Students who enrol for this Certificate will qualify for issuing of a GMIT Student ID Card.

Daytime lectures (Wednesdays, Thursdays, 09:30 to 13:30, from September 2018 to May 2019.

Commencing early September 2019.

The course is delivered in the GMIT Galway Campus, Dublin Road, Galway. The room will be advised on the Notice Board in Reception on the first night.

Closing Date for Applications
Friday, 31st August, 2019. If all places are taken on the course the status of the course will change from “Open for Applications” to “Course Full”.
