Mathematical Modelling for Physics

Description

This module provides an opportunity for the learner to practise formulating mathematical models of physical systems involving optical, mechanical and electromagnetic applications.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Formulate mathematical models of real-world phenomena using appropriate mathematical descriptions.

  2. Deduce the simplest possible mathematical model that incorporates the critical features of a physical system.

  3. Analyse mathematical models to reach mathematical conclusions, both by hand and using mathematical software (e.g. MATLAB).

  4. Interpret mathematical conclusions in terms of physical predictions or explanations.
