Mathematics 2

Description

This module covers: (i) Differentiation of implicit, parametric and multi-variate functions (ii) Integration techniques and applications to area and volume (iii)Solution of first and second-order differential equations and (iv) Infinite Series

Learning Outcomes

  1. Obtain the Maclaurin series for standard functions and test for convergence and divergence.

  2. Identify and differentiate implicit and parametric functions and functions requiring logarithmic differentiation.

  3. Find the partial derivatives of multi-variable functions and apply these to total derivative, rate of change and small increment problems.

  4. Integrate functions by the method of substitution, integration by parts and partial fractions and use integration techniques to evaluate area and volume.

  5. Solve first order separable, linear and homogeneous differential equations and second order linear homogeneous equations.
