Mathematics Fundamentals

Description

This module will provide students with a solid mathematical foundation relevant to a manufacturing engineer.

The module will develop problem-solving skills necessary for an engineer in various areas of engineering.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Manipulate algebraic expressions and use equations to solve engineering problems.

  2. Analyse relationships among variables using functions and their graphs.

  3. Explain the concepts of sine, cosine and tangent ratios and apply trigonometry to solve engineering problems.

  4. Represent vectors analytically and geometrically and use them in simple applications.

  5. Perform calculations involving complex numbers.

  6. Compute derivatives, definite and indefinite integrals and solve problems in a range of engineering applications using the derivative or the integral.

  7. Perform matrix operations and employ matrix methods to solve linear systems of equations.
