GMIT Science student

GMIT's Department of Natural Sciences offers a variety of science degrees with a strong applied focus. 

Courses in this department are as follows:

  • Agricultural and Environmental Management (GMIT Mountbellew/Galway campuses)
  • Applied Freshwater and Marine Biology
  • Chemical and Pharmaceutical Science
  • Forensic Science & Analysis
  • Public Health Nutrition
  • Sport and Exercise Science

There is strong emphasis on learning by 'doing' to develop practical knowledge and critical thinking skills.

All degrees also include a work placement.

Co-developed with Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology, the BEng in Automation and Robotics brings essential skills to the community and includes design of a 3D manufacturing robotics automation training centre at the Thermo King Galway plant.

Ivan McPhillips, GMIT Business School lecturer, and co-founder of the GMIT Youth Entrepreneur Summer Camp, has won the 2021 Enterprise Ireland Academic Award in recognition of his involvement in and the promotion of the annual Student Entrepreneur Awards competition since 1997.
