EU teaching staff visit GMIT to promote opportunities to study business degrees abroad in English
A group of teaching staff from third-level colleges in Europe are on a two-day visit to GMIT this week (Monday 7 and Tuesday 8 March) to outline the opportunities for Irish students to study abroad under the EU Erasmus Plus programme. The visit is part of a joint GMIT/IT Tallaght-hosted International Week.
GMIT’s School of Business recently launched a new suite of business programmes which offer students the chance to study a semester through English in a range of third-level colleges in Europe including Flensburg University of Applied Sciences, Germany; Saxion Hogeschule Enschede, Netherlands; Ghent Hogeschule, Belgium; IPAG Business School, France; Hogskolan I Halmstad, Sweden; and Tomas Bata University, Czech Republic.
Colm Kelleher, lecturer, GMIT School of Business, and Adrian Payne, Head of Department in IT Tallaght, are co-ordinating the overall visit and promotional campaign which will see the visiting lecturers and staff meet and work alongside staff and students in the two colleges, in Galway and Dublin.
Mr Kelleher says: “Many current students and those completing the CAO may be unaware that many European Schools of Business teach through English and that they can complete a semester of their GMIT programme abroad. The experience of living and studying abroad for a term helps students to gain a deeper appreciation of business in an international context.”
“Facilitating international study was one of the fundamental drivers in the recent re-design of our suite of business programmes and we hope that this event will get more Irish students to consider the option of studying abroad”.
Prof Graham Heaslip, Head of the GMIT School of Business, says: “Studying abroad is a fantastic opportunity for students, not alone are there benefits from experiencing a different culture and different teaching environment but more importantly for students there is the opportunity for personal development.”
