Press Release

Parents/Advisors Information Evening (Thurs 15 Nov) & CAO Open Day (Fri 16 Nov)

The Castlebar campus of GMIT is holding two separate open information events next week, one aimed at parents/advisors of prospective students and the other for secondary school students and mature applicants.

The new Parents/Advisors Information Evening takes place on Thursday 15 November from 7pm to 9pm in the GMIT Castlebar campus (St Mary’s Hall). The evening will consist of a panel of experts who will be in a position to supply information, give advice and answer questions on key areas such as student finance and grants, successful completion of CAO forms, progression routes in third level, supports for those with disabilities, the transition from second to third-level and much more. This is a forum that will give generic information to parents and advisors regardless of the college or programme of study being considered.

The second event, on Friday 16 November, is the annual campus Open Day which runs from 10am to 1pm. This is aimed at prospective students seeking information about the Castlebar campus, the range of programmes on offer and student life.

Lecturers will give talks on the variety of programmes delivered on the campus from Business to Computing and Humanities, Nursing & Social Care and Outdoor Education, and a special talk will be given on an exciting new programme which has been designed in consultation with leading employers - the Level 8 Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Digital Media & Society.

The Open Day will also provide information on GMIT support services, students clubs and societies, student fees/grant helpdesk, and the Students Union. Students in GMIT Castlebar will also be on hand to talk about life on campus as well as their own personal experiences. Information programmes in the four other GMIT campuses will also be available on the day and iRadio I101/104 will be broadcasting from the college on the morning of the 16 November.

Ivana Neary, Schools Liaison Officer, GMIT Castlebar, says the campus is delighted to offer a new parent/advisor open event: “We want to help parents and advisors by offering them a platform to seek clarity on all of the aspects which may cause them concern as their child starts college. We hope that by providing a generic information session like this that we can offer answers and helpful advice.”
