GMIT Mayo and Europe Direct hold public lecture on Formation of the EU

GMIT Mayo, in partnership with Europe Direct Tubbercurry, will hold a public lecture on Tuesday, 13 October, on ‘The Formation of the EU – The Legacy of the Founding Fathers' at 10am in St Mary’s Hall on campus. Europe Direct is a network of centres across Ireland and Europe, which provide information and advice on rights under EU law and EU policy. 

The open lecture will be delivered by Ingo Espenschied, a journalist who has studied international politics in Mainz at the Sorbonne in Paris and at the London School of Economics. He is a respected expert on Franco-German and European Relations.  

Jim Horan, Europe Direct Centre Manager, based in Sligo County Council, says the event will be of interest to the general public as well as second and third level students and GMIT staff. 

“We offer leaflets, information and also promote and support events both with a European dimension and local element. We look forward to Tuesday’s public lecture as Ingo has developed an innovative multi-media format for presenting this topic, which both brings the subject to life whilst informing the audienc.”  

The visit to the GMIT Mayo campus was facilitated by Mary Nestor, Lifelong Learning  Co-ordinator, GMIT Mayo, who says the talk will appeal to everyone interested in EU matters. “GMIT Mayo campus is delighted to facilitate relevant public lectures like this one, which make key speakers in EU matters accessible to members of the public."
