Opportunities for incoming students to learn about all courses and student life with Career & recruitment advice for final year students

GMIT Mayo is opening its doors to the public on Friday, 10 November (10am – 1pm) for an Open Morning  for secondary school students, parents and anyone interested in starting or returning to third-level study as a mature student.

As a special feature this year, staff are also running a Graduate Careers Fair on the day. A wide variety of employers, professional bodies and recruitment companies will available to discuss career options after third-level. Information stands and an expo will take place in St Mary’s Hall on campus.

Anne Donnelly, Student Services & Careers Officer, says: “We hope to have approximately thirty companies and organisations in attendance such as CIMA, CMS Distribution, CPA Ireland, Chartered Accountants, CPL Healthcare, Arcon Recruitment, Employability Mayo, Delphi Adventure Centre and Voluntary Service Ireland, to name a few.”

“Visitors will have an opportunity to take part in workshops on the various disciplines on offer with information stands on all programmes such as Business, Information Technology, Digital Media and Society, Culture and Environment (with Tourism), Outdoor Education, Sustainable Building Technology, Nursing, Social Care and Early Childhood Education and Care. Staff and students will be on hand to talk about the many services available to support students during their time at third level. Visitors will see the beautiful interior of the GMIT Mayo campus, formerly St Mary’s hospital, which has been restored and refurbished in recent years into a state of the art learning centre with excellent facilities.

Career Guidance Counsellors will have the opportunity to gather the most up to date information on both recent and future developments at GMIT Mayo at a special seminar with Michael Gill, Head of Dept of Business, Humanities & Technology, and Justin Kerr, Head of Dept of Nursing, Health Sciences and Social Care. 

Michael Gill, Head of Dept, says: “These event represent wonderful opportunities to discover and find out more about the different options that are available on your doorstep in terms of higher education. Please come along and see what is on offer. It could very well be the beginning of another great adventure in your life.”

GMIT Mayo’s Access Officer, Counsellor, Chaplain and other staff will be available to answer any questions about access and disability service, scholarships, financial supports, medical and student services.

“This is a great opportunity for students to learn more about full time and part time courses on offer at GMIT Mayo campus. The additional feature of having employers and recruitment companies at the open morning will give students further information about new and emerging trends in careers and the areas where demand is growing for graduates,” add Anne Donnelly, Student Services and Careers Officer at the Mayo campus.
