New part-time course delivered in collaboration with NUI Galway

GMIT Mayo is pleased to offer a new part-time course, the Diploma in Foundation Studies (Business), in collaboration with NUI Galway. The evening course is aimed at mature learners (aged 22 or over) who have been out of formal education for some time and wish to commence a third-level course in Business, Law or Arts.

The 26-week course will be delivered three evenings a week in the GMIT Mayo campus in Castlebar from 9 September. Subjects include Accountancy, Economics, Mathematics, Business Skills, Information Technology, Skills for College and Career, Academic Study Skills and Academic Writing. The course aims to provide mature learners with the opportunity to prepare, personally and academically, for a full-time or part-time undergraduate course in GMIT or NUI Galway. It will give an insight into the study of business and the skills to participate in future third-level education courses. Emphasis will be placed on the fundamentals of business and its practical application to real life experiences.

Michael Gill, Head of Department of Business, Humanities and Technology, GMIT Mayo, says “This is a great opportunity to get on the right path towards entering third-level business, law or arts courses in GMIT and NUIG”.

Programme Chair Declan Hoban says “This course will provide participants with a ‘taster’ for third level education. It will help them maximise their potential and acquire knowledge and skills to successfully transition to third-level degree courses. It will open doors for you.”

A graduate of the course, John Joe Mulloy, says “What I learned on this course during my time in GMIT was invaluable. Starting off with a part-time evening course like this is perfect. It gives a solid introduction to many subjects and may inspire you, like it has me, to go and pursue full-time education.”

The classroom-based course is due to commence, subject to sufficient demand, on Monday 9 September in the GMIT Mayo campus. Applications open 16 July. If you wish to apply for this course, please apply on-line at http://www.nuigalway.ie/mature/part-time/ Closing date for applications is 30 August 2019. If in full-time employment the cost of the course is €380. If on social welfare the cost is €60 with supporting evidence.
