Several hundred secondary school pupils are expected to attend an Open Morning hosted by GMIT at the Galway campus this Saturday (13 October) from 10 am to 1pm. All five GMIT campuses will have stands at the event including the Mayo campus in Castlebar, Letterfrack’s Centre for Excellence in Furniture Design & Technology, the Centre for Creative Arts & Media (CCAM) at the city campus formerly known as Cluain Mhuire, the Mountbellew campus.

Parents, teachers and mature applicants and those interested in upskilling and lifelong learning courses are also welcome to attend the event which will feature workshops, talks, tours and interactive events.

Staff and students will be on hand to answer questions on all course options in areas such as Agriculture, Business, Engineering, Film & Documentary/Design/Contemporary Art, Furniture Design/ Manufacture & Technology, Heritage, Humanities, Nursing/Health Sciences & Social Care, Tourism, Heritage and Culinary Arts, Science and Computing, and Outdoor Education.

The schedule includes advice on the CAO application proccess, student finance and supports including SUSI talks, and Access options, and introductory sessions for all GMIT Schools and campuses.

Lorraine Cunningham, GMIT Schools Liaison Officer, says: “Parents often have as many questions as students. We find our weekend open sessions allow for the full family to be involved in making the big decision to go to third level. It’s a great opportunity to learn about the CAO process, financial supports and college life, along with finding out about all our courses.”

Diarmuid Ó Conghaile, Head of Department of Heritage & Tourism, Languages & Humanities, Galway International Hotel School, says: “This is a wonderful opportunity for prospective students and their parents to meet with the lecturing teams on each programme while also being introduced to the facilities of each School.  There will be live demonstrations led by staff and students across the campuses that will give a flavour of what it is like to be a student on programmes in GMIT.”
