Press Release

GMIT is currently accepting applications for a new course in Creative Enterprise which is fully funded through the Springboard programme. The course will provide aspiring creative entrepreneurs with the knowledge, skills and opportunity to develop and test their ideas for a new creative product or service. It provides a range of new venture skills including project management, marketing and digital media skills required for a modern creative business. A major feature of the programme is development of a full business plan for a creative enterprise.

The participants will also work collaboratively in the ‘Creative Hub’ based at the Centre for Creative Arts and Media (CCAM). The course will run from October 2015 to May 2016. After successfully completing the course, participants can apply for the GMIT Summer Residency to continue to work at the Creative Hub in CCAM until the end of August 2016. Further information is available online at http://www.gmit.ie/art-and-design/certificate-creative-enterprise-sprin….

Dr. Paddy Tobin, Head of Centre, explains that the practical application of learning is embedded in the programme with real-life project challenges and the integration of industry and practitioner guest speakers and contributors into the programme. Participation in team projects will ensure participants are exposed to alternative knowledge, skills sets and perspectives. Delivery of the programme will be led by the Centre for Creative Arts and Media. The programme was developed in consultation with ‘Design Network West’, who will be involved in mentoring and advice for course participants. (www.designnetworkwest.ie)

GMIT has delivered third-level programmes in the creative area, including Art, Design, Furniture, Textiles, Film and other areas, for many years.

“Over the last 40 years several thousand GMIT graduates have embarked on careers in the creative sector, contributing to creative and cultural activity regionally, nationally and internationally” says Dr. Tobin.

He adds “GMIT also has a superb track record in delivering business programmes, collaborating and working with enterprise across many programmes, and supporting new enterprise. The new programme combines our strengths in delivering creative programmes, business programmes and enterprise engagement and development.”

Applicants must apply for this course through www.springboardcourses.ie and the closing date is August 31st., 2015.
