Second year in a row that GMIT students awarded accolade

Two GMIT students, Emer Cosgrove from Tuam and Oluwaseun Oladimeji from Claregalway have won top accolades at this year’s National Q Mark Awards.

Emer and Oluwaseun are in first and second year, respectively, of the part-time Certificate in Quality Management which is delivered at the GMIT Galway campus. This is a joint award between GMIT and EIQA and students also receive a professional body Diploma in Quality Management from EIQA.

The two GMIT students were presented with their awards, alongside their lecturers Rachel McCarthy and Ita Kelly, GMIT School of Science & Computing, at the awards ceremony in the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel in Dublin last weekend.

Irene Collins, Managing Director of the National Q Mark Awards, congratulated both students on their awards: “The EIQA Diploma in Quality Management is forever associated with Quality and Excellence in the minds of Irish Quality Professionals and both Emer and Oluswaseun are now hailed as ‘Champions of Business Excellence’. The Q Mark Award is the highest accolade an Irish business can achieve, given both the intense competition and the exacting standards required.”

Rachel McCarthy paid tribute to the students, saying: “We are very proud of our two GMIT students of Quality Management. Emer and Oluwaseun have worked hard over the last two years, combining obvious high levels of study with work and family life. They are an inspiration to our current students and hopefully they will encourage those of you who have been thinking of returning to education to take the plunge. Well done ladies!”

The Certificate in Quality Management in GMIT runs one evening a week over two years and makes up two modules of a Level 7, add-on Degree in Quality for Industry at GMIT.
