Press Release

Employment opportunities and career trends will be outlined to students and graduates

The GMIT Careers Service is delighted to announce its first ever Virtual Careers Fair which will go live on the Career Fair Plus app, www.careerfairplus.com, on Monday, 5 October from 12 to 3pm.This event brings together both employers and students in a virtual setting, showcasing current and future employment opportunities for students and graduates.

The annual Careers Fair is a key part of the GMIT student and academic calendar and this year’s virtual event features prominent companies from a range of industries such as accounting, agriculture, engineering, business, construction, science, and software.  These companies will be offering all the latest information on both employment and placement opportunities, career trends along with tips and advice for students and graduates.

GMIT Careers Officer Bridie Killoran says: “Students can pre-book virtual appointments with employers to discuss relevant job opportunities. It is a new channel to generate employment for our students and graduates - locally, nationally, and internationally. Employers have the option to deliver company presentations online and there is also a ‘Drop In Room’ facility where students can just drop in and meet an employer representative! There will also be information available on postgraduate study and career opportunities for them”.

“We are really excited about the launch of GMIT’s first ever Virtual Careers Fair. Over 20% of employer appointments were booked within the first day demonstrating the substantial interest from students to meet potential employers.”

Fiona O’Donnell, GMIT Careers Service, adds: “Our advice is that students and graduates should really do their research before meeting the employers to ensure they get the best out of their meetings. Also, test your technology before the event and test again! And most importantly enjoy the experience”.

“It is really great to see many of the same companies return each year, such as Cisco, Ericsson, Fidelity Investments, Aldi, Musgraves, EY, and many more. The event aims to support local and regional enterprise offering an opportunity for employers to engage with our students.
