Applied Social Care Graduate - Washington Marovatsanga

Washington Marovatsanga

As this course was my first encounter with social sciences/social care studies at a higher level, I benefited immensely from the conducive grounding that ensured not only a successful career in social care initially, but also subsequent acquisition of transferable academic skills, knowledge, ethics, requisite disciplines and a sociological imagination.

This has enabled me to successfully pursue post graduate studies in Social work, and ultimately engage in research work at the highest level of academia.

I’m presently doing a PhD on intercultural social work practice. This is an area of great importance for social work and care so that we can respond to all people with cultural sensitivity and justice. Otherwise we risk imposing our own norms on others in a way that could be quite oppressive.
