Social Care (Mayo Campus) - Paddy Langan

The course was a life changing experience for me, helping to make sense of my past.
The Social Care module was my favourite and I had a lot of ‘lightbulb’ moments during this class. GMIT Mayo was a fantastic experience.
To be able to pass modules and go on to gain degrees gave me a sense of worth that had been knocked out of me by past experiences. It gave me a sense of pride and purpose.
During my time at GMIT Mayo I became involved in Mayo Recovery College which holds its classes in GMIT. I facilitated and co-produced modules on psychosis there. I also became involved with Mayo Hearing Voices Support Group where I continue to work as a voluntary facilitator.
I currently work for Western Care Association, in individualised services based in Straide.
I would like to go on to study a masters, perhaps in psychology, building on the dissertation I completed in my final year.
I would recommend GMIT Mayo Campus as it is quite small and as a result the lecturers are very approachable and helpful.
