Pattern Drafting and Construction 1

Description

An understanding of how patterns are constructed is key knowledge for apparel designers. Knowledge and understanding of the limitations of what a pattern-cutter can do, leads to a good dialogue between designer and cutter. This module is an introduction to pattern cutting. Students learn to interpret the human form and look at clothing through the eyes of a designer-maker rather than as a consumer. Beginning with an examination of anatomical proportions and basic pattern cutting principles, this module introduces all the key tools and techniques. Pattern drafting and garment construction for beginners are covered. Students learn how to take the body measurement and make a flat pattern from their own measurement and standard size. The learn to adapt industry specific blocks into patterns that may include skirts, Shirts, bodices, sleeves, dresses and collars.
