Personal and Professional development for Mental Health/Psychiatric Nursing 2

Description

The aim of this module is to facilitate the student psychiatric nurse to explore the idea of why nurses should have good communication and interpersonal skills and to become aware of what users of the mental health services want from nurses. The student is invited to participate in their own emotional growth and development and to nurture their own self awareness. It is important that the student is not just aware of their own emotions but also aware of how to manage these in order to recognise and respond to the emotional needs of others, both individually and within a group. The module further aims to facilitate the student in developing empathy and compassion in order to enable him or her to work with service users in a recovery orientated way and place the service user at the centre of their own care.
