Personal and Professional development for Mental Health/Psychiatric Nursing 4

Description

The aim of this module is to enable the student psychiatric nurse explore and develop the skills necessary to complete the transition from student to registered psychiatric nurse. The student is invited to identify the key skills inherent in providing service user centred care and in leading and contributing to the future direction of mental health/psychiatric nursing. Furthermore, the student is facilitated in devising a strategy to promote and develop their own skills.

 

Learning Outcomes

  1. Critically evaluate students own leadership and management strengths and skills and devise a strategy to further promote and develop these skills

  2. Critically evaluate the role of the psychiatric/mental health nurse as an advocate and as an activist in mental health care

  3. Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of contemporary issues in mental health care within a national and international context

  4. Critically discuss the application of leadership and management theory in psychiatric/mental health nursing and the skills required to promote safe and effective psychiatric nursing practice

  5. Critically discuss the application of change theory in psychiatric/mental health nursing and critically evaluate students own strengths and skills as an agent of change and devise a strategy to further promote and develop these skills

  6. Critically discuss the role of the psychiatric/mental health nurse as an educator and in promoting an effective learning environment

  7. Demonstrate a critical understanding of advanced interpersonal skills for psychiatric/mental health nursing practice and critically evaluate students own strengths and skills as an effective communicator and devise a strategy to further promote and develop these skills
