Power Hydraulics 1

Description

An introduction into fluid power transmission and the how to size and select the principal components used in a power transmission hydraulic circuit.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Recall the components needed in a hydraulic circuit and be familiar with the representation of these components in engineering drawings (i.e. ISO 1219 standard)

  2. Assemble basic hydraulic circuits and understand the importance of pressure

  3. Differentiate between power hydraulic fluids based upon their engineering properties and explain the relationship between these properties and energy transmission losses

  4. Evaluate pressure and calculate the relationship between flow rates and energy (i.e. Fluid Properties, Pascal's Law, Mass, Momentum and Energy Conservation) in a power transmission hydraulic circuit

  5. Characterise the function and operation of various types of hydraulic Pumps and Motors and thereafter be able to select the most favourable family type for a given fluid power transmission application.

  6. Critically analyse the performance characteristics of the vartious families of hydraulic pumps and motors and therefafte be able to size the most suitable for a given hydraulic application by applying appropriate analytical and dimensional analysis.
