Practice Development 2 - Quality and Practice


This module is designed to enhance the development of critical reflection, self awareness and the process of integrating theory and practice. The learner will be required to develop a personal inventory of competencies, attributes and skills. The learner will be guided in developing and implementing a small-scale action research proposal suited for an early years setting as one element of their practice development. This module aims to develop learners’ competence in recognising and being able to articulate the elements of a quality childhood education and care practice.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Demonstrate a knowledge of different research methodologies, to include quanitative, qualitative and mixed method approaches.

  2. Design a comprehensive research proposal pertaining to the ECEC setting.

  3. Develop an understanding of the appropriateness of case study and action research to the ECEC setting.

  4. Demonstrate an understanding of the espistomology and ontological stance that underpin research methods.

  5. Develop a personal inventory of competencies, attributes and skills.
