Resource Efficiency Strategies for the Construction Sector

Description

This module will introduce the student to the materials, methods, strategies and technologies involved in delivering a more resource efficient built environment, particularly focusing on minimising environmental impact from the construction process.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Demonstrate an understanding of the complexities of sustainability issues in the built environment and the associated environmental impacts.

  2. Demonstrate a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of low energy design solutions and energy reduction opportunities during the construction process.

  3. Evaluate waste reduction design opportunities and formulate on-site waste management solutions to minimise waste production.

  4. Evaluate water reduction design opportunities and formulate on-site water management solutions to minimise waste use.

  5. Critically analyse the carbon footprint and environmental impact of selected case studies using life cycle assessment methodologies.

  6. Critically evaluate technological solutions for a low carbon built environment.
