Resource Efficiency Strategies for the Construction Sector
Description
Â
This module will introduce the student to the materials, methods, strategies and technologies involved in delivering a more resource efficient built environment, particularly focusing on minimising environmental impact from the construction process.
Learning Outcomes
-
Demonstrate an understanding of the complexities of sustainability issues in the built environment and the associated environmental impacts.
-
Demonstrate a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of low energy design solutions and energy reduction opportunities during the construction process.
-
Evaluate waste reduction design opportunities and formulate on-site waste management solutions to minimise waste production.
-
Evaluate water reduction design opportunities and formulate on-site water management solutions to minimise waste use.
-
Critically analyse the carbon footprint and environmental impact of selected case studies using life cycle assessment methodologies.
-
Critically evaluate technological solutions for a low carbon built environment.
