Textiles for Fashion

Description

Textiles for Fashion enables a learner to become proficient in textile production skills via the execution of a project focussed on either Surface design (Print) or Weave.

The module contains research, development and project resolution phases that require Learners to develop their awareness of current trends in materials, colour and contemporary design issues.

The aim of this module is to encourage the Learner to develop skills with Surface Design/Print OR weave as applied to fashion textiles, in response to a previously-agreed brief, negotiated between Learner and Lecturers.

The module requires the Learner to use processes and technical skills relevant to Surface Design/Print or weave to design and generate fabrics for fashion contexts, via Studio and workshop practice.

Thus the Learner will be enabled to create an individual collection of samples and outcomes of fabric appropriate to the pre-selected context.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Observe, gather visual information, reflect and draw conclusions.

  2. Respond to a set brief by engaging in workshops, in debate in seminars and tutorials and by articulating ideas and problems.
