The Nurse as an Educator

Description

Teaching, mentoring and supervising colleagues are integral parts of the role of the nurse. This module aims to enable the nurse to analyse and employ the theories and skills needed for education in nursing practice.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Critically analyse social, psychological and educational theories that inform & direct professional nursing practice and plan effective clinical teaching and assessment sessions.

  2. Identify a range of teaching strategies appropriate for practice settings.

  3. Devise and apply strategies appropriate for clinical practice settings in order to create a suitable learning climate.

  4. Critically analyse the concepts and practice of preceptorship and mentorship.

  5. Critically analyse student assessment and evaluation methods used in the clinical learning environment.
