Visual Storytelling for Animation and Game Design

Description

On this module learners will investigate how storytelling acts as an essential mechanism in motivating gameplay. Learners will evaluate and interpret different storytelling techniques with the objective of identifying themes and procedures for their own game concept projects.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Understand traditional narrative story techniques, such as the three-act structure, and how this corresponds to game flow.

  2. Demonstrate how to define character, setting, and structure to generate a convincing game design concept.

  3. Identify how to integrate mechanisms of good storytelling to actively engage with the audience

  4. Evaluate the effective use of game design documents utilising a number of different templates
