Work Placement

Description

Work placement and the gaining of knowledge, skills and competence through structured, supervised and assessed work exposure is a key element of this programme. In addition to developing life and employment skills, this module recognises that real and effective learning occurs during quality assured placements, and the learning outcomes and assessment methodologies are designed to enable the student to demonstrate this learning

Learning Outcomes

  1. Participate as an informed employee in a business enterprise, familiar with the history of the enterprise, its location, range of products/ services, HR policy and the organisational structure.

  2. Identify the stock taking process, the operational control functions, the security of cash and the prevention of fraud.

  3. State the inputs (human, capital, operational and technological) and evaluate the work processes and flows of the enterprise.

  4. Explain the markets served by the enterprise or destination, critically consider the needs of these markets, and evaluate the current marketing activities.

  5. Identify the technologies employed by the enterprise and appaise other technologies that could be utilised in the future.

  6. Critically consider the fluctuations in demand experienced by the enterprise, suggest action that could be taken to smooth demand over time and explain how the enterprise does or can adjust its operating costs in relation to different patterns of demand.

  7. State the key service standards that the business enterprise has adopted and evaluate their implementation and their relevance to the markets served.

  8. Describe the different styles of leadership, and types of communication that have been observed during the employment period.

  9. Reflect on their individual performance at work, respond appropriately to employment appraisals and maintain an employment diary which records and analyses critical incidents that have occured during the placement period.
