Workplace Issues: HR and IR In Context

Description

This module is designed to give students an increased understanding of modern workplaces and the changing employment relationship.  It is a suitable module for business graduates seeking to take up management roles or thinking of becoming an employer themselves.  The module will build on HRM knowledge developed in earlier modules, examine new topics that are relevant to modern workplaces, and examine current thinking and research from the field. 

Learning Outcomes

  1. Analyse HR and IR issues in the workplace.

  2. Identify and understand the relationships between HRM/IR and the broader business economic, social and political environment in which it operates.

  3. Discuss the issues surrounding HRM and IR and contribute to the emerging debate in the field.

  4. Exercise judgment in designing appropriate organisational procedures to deal with a variety of workplace issues that can arise in modern enterprises.

  5. Assist in the design of new organisational procedures and redesign of existing organisational procedures.

  6. Contribute effectively in a business context to the management of HR and IR.
