Description

The module aims to develop a comprehensive understanding of how labour markets work and how they are affected by institutions and labour market policies. The module considers the strategic interactions between labour supply and labour demand and acknowledges the importance of distortions and imperfections in these interactions. In addition, the module outlines the origins of unemployment and analyses the role of government in reducing unemployment and increasing participation. It addresses the process of wage differentials and explains why similar workers are paid differently and have different career progression paths. The module outlines the role of public policy in maintaining efficient labour markets in society.
