Professional Practice: Contract and Procurement

Description

This module is designed to provide students with detailed and working knowledge of the commonly used procurement systems, contract types, health and safety and core built environment legislation, statutory and regulatory requirements. 

Learning Outcomes

  1. Demonstrate detailed working knowledge of core built environment legislation, and an ability to research and apply statutory and regulatory requirements pertaining to the built environment .

  2. Exercise appropriate judgement in the choice of commonly used procurement systems and contract types and their appropriate application

  3. Demonstrate detailed  knowledge and understanding of the roles and responsibilities both legal and ethically of the parties involved in contract administration.

  4. Demonstrate a working  knowledge and understanding of tender, post tender and handover stages of construction projects

  5. Demonstrate capacity and  knowledge of resolution mechanisms for disputes

  6. Demonstrate a knowledge and competence as far as reasonably practicable the Health and Safety requirements, in particular , hazard identification , risk assessment , safety statement and  the legal understanding of a Competent person in relation to Health & Safety Legislation -with emphasis on applying to Construction Duty holders under Safety, Health and Welfare at Work (Construction) Regulations 

  7. Enhance professional competence in legal and ethical decision-making , verbal and  communication skills required for professional practice.
