Equality, Diversity and Inclusion

ATU is committed to creating an environment where diversity is celebrated.

ATU is committed to creating an environment where diversity is celebrated and everyone is treated fairly regardless of:

  • Gender

  • Age

  • Race

  • Disability

  • Ethnic origin

  • Religion

  • Sexual orientation

  • Civil status

  • Family status

  • Membership of the Traveling community

Embedding the principles of equality, diversity and inclusion across our Institute is one of the priorities set out in the Strategic Plan 2019-23.

This will “ensure equality of opportunity and transparency” and aid in “building a diverse community which thrives on excellence and, as a result, attracts talented people (staff, students and collaborators). They in turn, will further develop the Institute.”

The promotion of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) is the responsibility of all members of the ATU community and will contribute to creating a safe and welcoming environment where everyone can contribute and reach their full potential.

An Equality, Diversity & Inclusion Manager has been appointed for the Institute. This role will focus on the development and co-ordination of initiatives, policies, and programmes that support and embed equality, diversity and inclusion in the institute and acknowledge these as drivers of excellence.

An Equality, Diversity & Inclusion Steering group has been established to oversee the achievement of equality initiatives such as membership of the Athena SWAN Charter and support the work of embedding equality, diversity and inclusivity in the Institute.

This calendar has been developed to support ATU staff and students to recognise and celebrate a variety of occasions throughout the Academic Year. It includes some UN Days in addition to commonly recognised visibility and pride days.

This calendar does not provide an exhaustive list, and there are many more days, celebrations and religious holidays that could be included in future calendars or lists. The ATU EDI Office provides this list to support staff in being cognisant of various religious traditions and significant days. Please get in contact with ATU EDI Office at edi@gmit.ie if you have any feedback or suggestions for occasions that should be marked in future.
