Institutional Review

As a provider of higher education, ATU, formerly GMIT has primary responsibility for quality assurance. A core element of contemporary quality assurance practice is external review of the institution as a whole.

Institutional Review 2010

Quality and Qualifications Ireland (QQI) conducts Institutional Reviews on a periodic basis to ensure the quality assurance procedures of higher education providers are effective.

In 2010, an institutional review was carried out in GMIT.

The process encouraged an analytical and reflective review of all of the activities of the Institute.  A quality improvement plan supports and underpins the culture of continuous quality improvement evident throughout the Institute.

The objectives of the institutional review are:

  • to enhance public confidence in the quality of education and training provided by the institution and the standards of the awards made;

  • to assess the effectiveness of the quality assurance arrangements operated by the institution;

  • to confirm the extent that the institution has implemented the national framework of qualifications and procedures for access, transfer and progression;

  • to evaluate the operation and management of delegated authority where it has been granted;

  • to provide recommendations for the enhancement of the education and training provided by the institution;

  • to contribute to coherent strategic planning and governance in the institution.
