GMIT has formed alliances with a number of partners resulting in increased collaboration and sharing of resources

Connacht Ulster Alliance

 

GMIT, Letterkenny IT and IT Sligo have formed a strategic partnership, the Connacht-Ulster Alliance, with the aim of achieving the criteria required for designation as a Technological University.  All three Institutes are working together on areas such as flexible learning delivery, research and innovation, bespoke delivery for industry, links to local Education and Training Boards, international student recruitment and staff development.

GMIT and NUIGalway have a strategic alliance which allows for collaborative opportunities in teaching and learning, research, entrepreneurship, regional development, commercialisation, innovation, distance education, and work based learning.

GMIT and the Marine Institute 

 

GMIT and the Marine Institute have a strategic alliance that develops marine research capabilities, undergraduate and postgraduate marine science programmes and staff training & development initiatives in the two institutes. The memorandum of agreement allows for reciprocal adjunct appointments between the two organisations.

Regional Clusters

 

As part of the re-organisation of the higher education landscape in Ireland, regional clusters of higher education institutions are being created. 

West/North West Regional Cluster
The West/North West Regional Cluster consists of GMIT, Letterkenny IT and IT Sligo along with NUI Galway.

Mid-West Regional Cluster
The Mid-West Regional Cluster consists of Limerick IT, University of Limerick and Mary Immaculate College. 

In due course, the West/North West and Mid-West clusters will merge.
