PhD Postgraduate Research Opportunities

Project Title: Molecular characterization of microalgae (Alexandrium spp) and development of novel diagnostic Harmful Algal Bloom (HAB) surveillance tools to address increasing risks of paralytic shellfish poisoning events in Ireland.

Funding: Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine

Project Title: Development & Implementation of novel molecular assays for the routine detection of toxigenic and harmful phytoplankton species in Irish coastal waters and sediments.

Funding: This Cullen Scholarship will be administered by the Marine Institute and funded by the Institute under the Marine Research Programme with the support of the Irish Government

Project Title: Epidemiological investigations of the salmon louse (Lepeophtheirus salmonis) on Irish Atlantic salmon farms.

Masters Postgraduate Research Opportunity

Project Title: Improving conservation value of Corncrake sites: The contribution of various early and late cover (ELC) types and quality to invertebrate diversity and abundance.

Funding: This EU LIFE funded Atlantic Crex project (Improving Corncrake conservation status in Ireland by the enhancement of the SPA network and surrounding farmland) is coordinated by the National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) and includes partners from Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Údarás na Gaeltachta, Fota Wildlife Park and the Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology.
