Graduate Student Biography - Mark Gaughan
I am 21, and from Athlone, Co. Roscommon. I knew I wanted to study architecture when I was doing technical graphics in school. When I finished school I completed a CAD course in Cavan Institute as a stepping stone to doing Architectural Technology in GMIT.
I am now in GMIT studying Architectural Technology, after finishing four years here it really changed my way of thinking about buildings and all types of architecture. By doing this course it makes me immediately aware and to consider the entire lifecycle of the building from design stage until its demolition, a building has to be considered in many dimensions rather than just 2D or 3D. After completing 4th year I have enhanced my research and analysis qualities and I am now able to thoroughly analyse materials and find out which suits a building best.
4th Year Technical Report Title: Retrofitting a Traditional Solid Masonary Wall in a Protected Structure.
