Students' Union

Assists students in areas such as grants, timetables, exams, lectures, personal issues and more

Leagan Gaeilge

GMIT's Students' Union is a democratic organisation run by students for students.

It is the student's voice within the Institute and assists students in areas such as grants, timetables, exams, lectures, personal issues, etc.

It is also responsible for managing extra-curricular activities that enhance the student experience (such as clubs & societies, entertainment, and educational welfare campaigns), as well as handling all queries about student accommodation.

The President
The President is the chief executive officer and principal spokesperson for the Union.  He/she administers the Union on a day to day basis and negotiates on its behalf with external organisations.  He/she represents students on all major decision making bodies within GMIT, including the Governing Body and Academic Council.

The Students' Union in Mayo elects its own President, who works in cooperation with the Students' Union President in Galway.

Vice President/Welfare Officer
The Deputy President/Welfare Officer is responsible for welfare services and for providing advice and referral services on issues such as health, accommodation, and general safety while at college. He/she acts in place of the President during his or her absence.

Executive Officers
Each campus has a number of students who serve the Union on a part-time basis.  The Galway campus votes for these positions in September. GMIT Mayo has a Nursing Officer and Mature Students Officer.
