GMIT is delighted to announce an exciting line-up of speakers taking part in this year’s Digital West event which takes place fully online at  https://digitalwest.biz/ on Tuesday week, 26 January 2021, from 10am to 12.30pm, on the theme of “Digital Transformation”.

Hosted by GMIT and sponsored by the Local Enterprise Office (LEO), experts from the public and private sectors and academia will share their experiences of how their organisations successfully transitioned to digital marketing.

The event will be opened by GMIT President Dr Orla Flynn (10am), followed by guest speakers Aidan Kilcoyne, Head of Marketing Europe for Paddy Power Betfair;
Valerie McTaggart, Lecturer in Global Business Service at IT Sligo;
Elaine Moyles, Head of Enterprise, LEO Mayo, and Brid Conroy & Neil Paul from Teritula Bookshop [tertuliabookshop.com];
Ciara Gallagher (GMIT graduate), Security and Compliance Technical Specialist, Microsoft Ireland,
Brian Hanly, Chief Customer Officer at Emergn.

This is the fourth year of Digital West, and just one in a number of initiatives planned as part of the creation and rollout of a digital strategy for Mayo. On 15 December 2020, the final draft of the “Regulation on a Single Market For Digital Services (Digital Services Act)” was introduced.  This legislation, once ratified, will support European Digital Transformation ambitions and create a safer, harmonised open digital space across the EU. The movement to digitally transform EU business and society is accelerating.  This Digital West event examines some of the key digital transformation themes.  This informative event, coupled with GMIT programme digital education provision for individuals, entrepreneurs and SMEs aims to accelerate, upskill and support beneficial technology advancement in the West of Ireland.

Noreen Henry, lecturer in IT, GMIT, and Chair of Digital West 2021, says this event is a really excellent opportunity for individuals, businesses and organisations to find out about digital transformation strategies and emerging technologies and techniques such as AI, analytics, automation and cybersecurity.  “We will hear from a mixture of experienced digital transformers with local to national and global perspectives from marketing to cybersecurity, as well as hearing about the various supports that are available to organisations to enable digital transformation. Brid & Paul from “Terulia, a bookshop like no other”, have availed of the supports provided by LEO to enable the digital transformation of their local business.  It is a great opportunity to hear from a diverse panel and have an opportunity to ask those questions that may be holding you back”.

The free online event will be streamed live, and you can register on https://digitalwest.biz/

It will also be streamed live in a number of centres including the GMIT’s iHubs at the Galway and Mayo campuses. Anyone wishing to co-host the event live from their location please contact Turlough Rafferty, GMIT Galway iHub, please email turlough.rafferty@gmit.ie or Noreen Henry, noreen.henry@gmit.ie
