Description

This module seeks to develop students appreciation of psychological and sociological factors that inform nursing and healthcare delivery. It will encourage the student to view the profession of nursing and the provision of care through a broader societal lens. As part of this, students will be provided with an introduction to psychology and sociology establishing their relevance to nursing, health and healthcare.

  1. Critically evaluate specific psychological theories relating to nursing and health care

  2. Analyse psychological reactions to life events

  3. Evaluate theories and models in health psychology and their relevance to nursing

  4. Analyse the contribution of psychological and sociological research to professional practice

  5. Discuss critically the sociological values, ideologies and theories which underpin health care delivery

  6. Critically explore sociological factors contributing to health and illness in wider society

  7. Critically evaluate the contribution of sociological perspectives to the development and evolution of the profession of nursing
