Bioprocessing Technology

Description

This module comprehensively covers the theoretical and practical aspects of cell and tissue culture, upstream processing (U.S.P) and downstream processing (D.S.P) and technologies, enabling the learner to effectively participate in these areas. On completion of the module, the learner should be able to proceed to more advanced studies in Bioprocessing.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Participate in the design and running of Biopharmaceutical facilities including details on the facilities lay-outs, utilities, equipment and materials required for biopharmaceutical processing.

  2. Develop and maintain cell lines, establish master cell stocks (MCS), working cell stocks(WCB) culture collections and inoculum for biopharmaceutical manufacture.

  3. Describe the different stages of upstream processing (USP) and downstream processing (DSP).

  4. Perform a range of laboratory and pilot plant practicals relating to cell culture processing.

  5. Analyse the technical parameters pertinent to the technology & processes required at all stages of bioprocessing.

  6. Assess Aseptic Processing and Lyophilisation Technologies used in the biopharmaceutical industry.

  7. Current Trends in bioprocessing and biopharmaceutical manufacturing.
