Building Energy Performance

Description

The aim of this module is to provide students with methodologies to estimate and measure energy performance of new and existing dwellings and buildings other than dwellings.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Differentiate between calculated and measured (actual) energy performance of a dwelling and a building other than a dwelling

  2. Identify and describe current energy performance, building regulations, relevant metrics and theoretical background

  3. Apply Building Energy Rating methodologies and software (e.g. DEAP and iSBEM)

  4. Understand design and operation of instrumentation and control systems for buildings (focused on systems required to measure and control comfort levels and energy flows)

  5. Carry out an energy audit of a dwelling and a building other than dwelling. Understanding of where energy is consumed and identify significant energy users, such as heating/cooling system, lighting, equipment, refrigeration etc.

  6. Assess energy performance of a dwelling and a buiding other than a dwelling based on energy bills data

  7. Prepare an energy audit report and make recommendations on dwellings and buildings other than dwellings
