Construction Materials

This module introduces the student to the full range of materials that are in common use on all kinds of construction projects. The practical element will enable the student to competently complete a set of concrete lab tests.

1. Identify material properties and products associated with construction and civil engineering projects

2. Describe the physcial properties of materials,  their production and uses

3. Outline quality control, health and safety and environmental issues associated with materials use

4. Demonstrate an understanding of the practices involved in concrete laboratory testing of materials

5. Apply knowledge under supervision on a construction site, ready mix plant or testing laboratory
