Contemporary Management

Description

This module examines the circumstances and ideas that are currently shaping management thinking and practice. The module will revisit key themes in management theory before going on to examine the macro and micro influences on management in the 21st Century.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Discuss and critically evaluate contemporary issues of relevance to management.

  2. Be able to demonstrate an understanding of; uncertainties, social pressures, expectations, value conflicts, tradeoffs and other aspects of the external environment.

  3. Be able to demonstrate an understanding of conflicts between theory and practice.

  4. Have enhanced critical thinking, analysis and synthesis skills.

  5. Develop communication skills through oral and written assignments which require clear articulation of issues and cogent arguments for and against specific positions regarding those issues.
