Fundamental Nursing Knowledge and Skills

Description

This module will provide general students with the essential nursing knowledge, skills and attitude to deliver the fundamental needs of adult persons in their care. The module will include considerations of the needs of the older person. Theory is presented concurrently with skills in the clinical laboratory. The module is delivered in parallel with the module Biological Science for Fundamental Nursing Knowledge and Skills. To be successful in this module the student must pass each assessment independent of each other.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Describe the theory underpinning the nurses' role in caring for the fundamental needs of adults including the older person.

  2. Describe the stages of the nursing process and demonstrate a problem solving approach to planning patient care.

  3. ·         Explain an effective rationale for the theory underpinning the associated clinical skills

  4. Perform the clinical skills in compliance with patient safety standards.
